Jimmie Snider Field is set to be the site of a flag football tournament for over 300 youth football players on Saturday, Oct. 26. The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. and is expected to conclude around 4 p.m. Around 70 children from the Lind and Ritzville communities are prepped to play in the season’s final games on Saturday. Local 4-H leaders, participants and friends will gather in Lind on Saturday, Oct. 26, for the Adams County 4-H achievement program beginning at 1 p.m. to celebrate the success of the clubs throughout the year. The local hospital district has been scrambling in October to respond and address a broad list of deficiencies identified by the Washington State Department of Health and the Washington State Patrol Fire Protection Bureau. The deficiencies were cited by the agencies during a state hospital licensing survey of the facility on Sept. 24-26. The Lady Tigercats faced two hard-hitting teams in the last week, falling in a match to Pomeroy followed by a marginal loss against Rosalia. The Lady Tigercats faced Pomeroy on Thursday and were defeated in three sets with scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-17. Head coach Sarah Mayer said the match was an overall improvement for the team, as the girls maintained solid communication on the court throughout the games. The LWK Tigercats continue to battle in hopes of earning the first win of the season, but faced defeat in Touchet last Friday. The Indians ran away with the win, defeating the Tigercats easily with a final score of 58-6. While the Tigercats have struggled to maintain close games, head coach Justin Ziebell said the team is constantly making improvements and the athletes never give up. Sweeping St. George’s Tuesday night in the final regular season game of the year, the Lady Broncos secured a third place finish in the Northeast 2B volleyball standings. Keith Connell died at the age of 93 on Monday, Oct. 15, at his home in Benge. He was born nearby on Dec. 26, 1919, to Frank and Zona (Morgan) Connell and farmed his entire life in the area.
