Brewer has had a long career of working within the agency, having spent about 11 years as the administrative assistant/appraisal office supervisor under two county assessors, Anderson and Jerry Crossler. • All six contract points had value

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

I thought you did not edit paid articles to the editor. My article last week had six doctor negotiation demands. The sixth one was just as important as 1-5. I don’t know how you missed number six, I had them labeled 1-6 as such. Not listing the sixth item took some of the impact out of what I was trying to say. So here goes again, 6. The hospital shall also agree not to compete by hiring additional family practitioners or P.A.’s during the life of this agreement and for no less than two years following termination of thi... Full story

  • Other important election decisions exist

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

Thank you, Stephen McFadden, for your interviews with the candidates seeking election or reelection to the EARH board. Thank you, American Association of University Women, for providing the forum, which gave us the opportunity to hear the candidates express their opinions, hopes and fears. A thank you also to each candidate, for making yourselves available in print and in person. How different are matters regarding the candidates for city council positions. Not a peep out of any of them. No interviews in the Journal, no...

  • Another point of view on contract demands

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

In Grant Miller’s letter last week, he described himself, accurately, as confused. Let us see if we can unpack and resolve some of the confusions, point by point. 1. An “anonymous letter” is a claim or an expression of opinion that has no signature and thus no validation; a document received from an anonymous source is still that document, independent of who delivered it, and carries its own authenticity. Many of the most important news stories in modern history have depended on anonymously provided documents. Such docum...

  • It’s crucial the path be changed

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

On an October day, 2010, I remember being told by an EARH employee, ‘If you care about your doctors and your hospital, you better get involved.’ I did, as did many of us. Mr. Barglof arrived first as interim CEO in May 2010 and was signed to his contract as CEO Sept. 1 of the same year. The signals were beginning to sound. The meeting in January 2011 at which all contract negotiations with Doctors Sackmann and Eckley were severed resulted in a fracturing wail of the community from which rose Hometown Family Medicine and saw...

  • Hospital district needs new direction

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

It is time that the hospital board takes a new direction. Because trust has been broken, healing in our communities cannot happen. That is why I am voting for Stacey Plummer, Jerry Snyder and Jeff Reynolds. I encourage all voters to look at the issues and to support these people who can bring the change we need and restore the trust we deserve from our elected officials. Kris Schwisow, Ritzville...

  • Elect candidates who will spend tax dollars wisely, locally

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

My letter is to support the re-election of Stacey Plummer and election of Jeff Reynolds and Jerry Snyder. I would be remiss, however, in not mentioning Mr. Grant Miller’s paid advertisement. The only significant point in his advertisement is the opening, “I am confused…” Everything else in his advertisement is quite simply “should have, could have, would have” rhetoric. The negotiations – or lack thereof – are old news and meaningless at this time. Neither Doctor Sackmann nor Doctor Eckley has been employed at the EARH Cli...

  • Barglof wrongfully convicted in court of public opinion

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

Think we ought to hang him? Since the hiring of Mr. Barglof, he has done nothing right! Or so the January meeting and the rumor mill has proclaimed. Has anyone heard one single positive thing he has said or done since he’s been here? I’ve heard him called a crook in a public meeting. I’ve heard that he is spending the hospital into bankruptcy and that he certainly shouldn’t be driving a Jaguar. Why isn’t he in jail? Not only was he fired from the Odessa Hospital but he doesn’t even live here! Clearly, many people in this com...

  • A board member should be informed

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

After participating in the candidate forum sponsored by the Ritzville AAUW in September, I learned more about how uninformed my opponent is on the current issues facing East Adams Rural Hospital District. For a board member that has served 10 years and been a part of reviewing contract negotiations and approving hiring contracts, I would expect my opponent to know what was in those contracts. When asked if mileage was being paid to out of town employees and if so how can this be justified, her answer was, “I am not privy t... Full story

  • The power of Moms in Touch

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

For the last several years I have written an article each fall about an organization I belong to called Moms in Touch. In each article I gave the facts – what Moms in Touch is and when and where we meet. This year I chose to write a letter so I can express more fully the heart of Moms in Touch. Moms in Touch is an organization that started in the 1970s when two women in California began praying together for their children. It has grown into an international ministry, but the purpose is still the same – moms praying for the... Full story

  • Touchet’s speed helps them race by Tigercats, 48-36

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

For most of the game it was a back and forth affair until Touchet scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to take a league win last Friday, 48-36. The LaCrosse-Washtucna Tigercats’ fourth straight loss ended their season hopes of advancing to the playoffs with three games remaining. “Lack of speed is killing us,” head coach Jeff Nelson said. “Other teams have it and we don’t and if anyone breaks loose we end up giving up long touchdowns. Eight-man is a speed gam...

  • Lady Broncos fall

    Updated Oct 20, 2011

The lady Broncos were bounced twice in volleyball action, falling to Davenport on Thursday, Oct. 13, 17-25, 14-25, 25-21 and 21-25. Monday night Connell took a win in three games, 22-25, 20-25 and 25-22. It was the little things that prevented a win against Davenport. “We played much better volleyball the last two games of the match but we made little mistakes which added up to give Davenport the victory,” head coach Cari Galbreath said. “We are definitely capable but we must put our ability into action.” Jenna Bennett...
