The Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind will host its annual Oktoberfest celebration on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Lind Senior Center, located at 117 North I Street. The bake sale will open at 11 a.m. and everyone is reminded to come early for the best choices. Dinner begins at 11 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m. Take-out orders are available for those unable to stay. The fifth annual York Pumpkin Sale will be held the weekend of Oct. 21. Proceeds to go to the Lind-Ritzville band program. Pumpkins are from Owen York’s pumpkin patch located 1567 N. Teams from across Eastern Washington are traveling to Ritzville on Saturday, Oct. 21, to participate in a flag football tournament. Jimmie Snider Field is split into three sections, and the tournament begins at 9 a.m. with the youngest participants. Umpqua Bank is opening after hours on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 5:30-6 p.m. for local children to stop in and paint a pumpkin. There are a limited number of pumpkins available, and parents are asked to call by Oct. 23 to reserve a pumpkin. The Ritzville Foursquare Church is organizing a community FUNDrive to raise money for Tim and Brandi Fannin to purchase a wheelchair accessible van. The Fannins’ eight-year-old daughter, Zoey has pachygyria, which is a developmental condition caused by a rare random genetic mutation early in the pregnancy. The Adams County Fire Protection Districts in Lind and Ritzville have announced the burn ban has been lifted throughout the county as of Oct. 19. Residents are reminded permits must still be obtained to burn, and city residents must follow the ordinances. The Adams County Fire Protection District No. 1 and Ritzville EMTs responded to call at West Plains Skydiving on Oct. 15. Adams County Fire Protection District No. 1 Chief Scott Kembel said the department received a call at 2:28 p.m. about a diver who missed the landing zone and ended up on the roof of a hanger. The department sent two vehicles with seven firefighters to the scene. Firefighters brought the diver from the roof to the ground and set up a landing zone for Life Flight. The Lind Town Council went through a light agenda at their Oct. 10 meeting. Council approved a contract for $2,850 to install a backup sodium hypochlorite system for Wells No. 7 and No. 8. Olive Grams died on Oct. 5 in Spokane. She was born on March 27, 1927, to Reinholt and Mary Grams in Ralston. In 1945, Ollie moved to Spokane and worked for the Bon Marche. She then was a federal employee at recruiting in downtown Spokane, Geiger, Fort George Wright, and then worked in civil engineering at Fairchild Air Force Base. John F. Imler was born on Dec. 23, 1933, to Reuben and Marguerite Imler in Wilbur. He died on June 26 in Tacoma. John attended school in Endicott and Ritzville. He enlisted in the Navy in the early 1950s and was a corpsman. Upon returning, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired. After that he went back to school and received his high school diploma, Bachelors and Masters of Education degrees. He taught school in Medical Lake, Benton City and Franklin Pierce districts. Sept. 9, 10:31 a.m. – A Lind complainant advised of a gate on South First Street appearing to be pushed in. Deputy Jeff Lane arrived at the scene and determined the gate was broken and someone entered the property. Lane attempted to contact the last known owner to verify if there has been a crime committed. The landowner is apparently deceased and their child will come down and check on the property. The Broncos boys and girls cross country teams finished their regular season in the District 7 1B/2B race at Kettle Falls on Oct. 10. Rose Melville finished in fourth place in the girls’ 5,000 meters varsity race with a time of 21 minutes and 45 seconds. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos went on the road to earn a much needed win against Mary Walker on Oct. 13. The trip to Springdale resulted in a 33-16 victory for the Broncos, and helped them to gain momentum and confidence as they prepare for the final two regular season games. I wish to commend the management of The Ritz Theater for showing the movie “All Saints” this last weekend.
