The commentator in “Pity the Poor Streamers” (8/28/13), writes: “…we need renewable energy. But we also need oil, natural gas – and, yes, coal – if we are to meet future energy demands.” “Streamers” refers to birds who are incinerated by super-heated air surrounding solar arrays in California-Nevada. I love birds and hate for them to die like this. But, free-ranging domestic cats are estimated to kill 1.4 to 3.7 billion birds annually. One thing I like about this part of Adam County is the number of good churches found here. Some, like my home church of Benge Community Church, are more off the beaten path; but after the country drive to get there, we always feel like we’ve arrived home to family. The dear people in Benge have become like family to us; and they really are, because we are all part of God’s family. With all of the many children there are in Benge, I am reminded of how Jesus said to let the little children come unto Him for the kingdom of God...
On Oct. 18 and 19 the Lind-Ritzville Band will be selling pumpkins to support their activities. They will be located on the corner of First Avenue and Division Street in the vacant lot near the hardware store. The pumpkins are locally grown and provided from Owen York’s pumpkin patch and the Kison Family pumpkin patch. Jack C. Scheeler, 89, a resident of Lind died on October 8,. Jack was born on December 13, 1924 to John, Sr. and Hilda (Floether) Scheeler, one of 10 children: Amelia, Ella, Esther, John, Jr., (Jack), Richard, Elsie “Gerry”, Beth, Marjorie, and Don. After a tough homecoming match the Lady Broncos took on the Saint George’s Dragons in an away game. The Broncos were able to take the match in three despite being down a middle hitter. Madison Harder injured her ankle during the Wilbur-Creston match and therefore was unable to play during the away game. They also had two players who, due to sickness, had no voice. Gerry Schoesler and Patty Johnson were married on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Zion Philadelphia UCC Church in Ritzville.
