  • Science fiction becomes science fact

Emma Aldrich, LRHS Student Correspondent|Updated Oct 15, 2015

The line that distinguishes science fiction from fact waivers, often to the point where it fades away in places. In the novel The Earth To The Moon, Jules Vern depicted the Apollo 11 mission to the moon—an event that wouldn’t commence until 1969—over a century prior in 1865. The underlying question behind the parallels connecting fact and fiction has been sustained for many years, and yet remains unanswered: does art imitate life or does life imitate art? Do the inventions, events, or discoveries occur independently of or pr...

    Rachel Plager|Updated Oct 15, 2015

The game came to a close with set scores of 10-25, 25-19, 14-25 and 19-25. The Lady Broncos did their best to stay in the game with intensity for the duration of the match. Head Coach Cari Galbreath stated that she “believes we lost because we would get in a drought for too long.” These droughts are shown in the stats, the Lady Broncos had a total of 15 hitting errors and seven serving errors. The seco...

  • You’re fired

    Dale Anderson|Updated Oct 15, 2015

I’m sure there are a few of you that have watched the Celebrity Apprentice starring Donald Trump. I haven’t but you can’t miss the two words that have made this reality show famous. The two words spoken by the Donald that were most famous were, “You’re fired!” In everyday life those two words are scary unless you get fired from a job you absolutely hate. But most people are not happy when they are let go. It can be emotional because jobs are tough to get. This past week o...

  • Well house restoration project begins in Ralston

    Updated Oct 15, 2015

Ralston once was a whistle stop on the mainline of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, commonly known as the Milwaukee Road. Today, not only is the railroad and its tracks gone, pulled up when the Pacific Extension of the railroad was abandoned in 1980, but most of the reminders of the railroads in Ralston’s presence have disappeared. The depot, section house, water tank and auxiliary buildings are all history. The one remaining building is the well house. The well, which once serviced the water tank u...

  • Supporting Bell for Town Council

    Updated Oct 15, 2015

I want to encourage all the citizens of Lind to vote Paula Bell for position No. 4 on the Lind Town Council. Paula is a long-time resident of Lind. She has devoted her professional and personal life to teaching and supporting the students of the district in all their endeavors. As a teacher, she is already a great leader in the classroom and the community. She looks for the best in her students and wants to see them do the best they can, not only in school, but later in life. I have no doubt that she will transfer this...

  • Candidate forums should be provided for all districts

    Updated Oct 15, 2015

The citizens of Lind are going to be treated to a candidate forum. It appears the candidates there wish to explain themselves. Is this sort of thing still legal in eastern Adams County? The citizens of Ritzville have not been treated to a candidate forum in a very long time. One reason for this is the lack of contested positions. In the past two or three council elections there have been one maybe two contested races. The mayor has been quite active in filling vacant positions so at election time there are no open positions....

Besides teaching, she raised a family, was involved in the Lind Community and became an elected official to the Town of Lind council. Currently, Paula is seeking re-election and I encourage your vote for her. Without reservation I highly recommend her as a strong candidate to the city council position No. 4. Since I attend most of the council meetings, I’ve had many opportunities to witness her determination and straight forward approach to become an i... Full story

  • Allow states to set clean water guidelines

    Updated Oct 15, 2015

In the latest in a string of attempts to impose bureaucratic federal control over Washington state waters, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is threatening to impose its own rules on the state. Despite the fact that the state’s proposal already meets required federal guidance, EPA has issued such as threat. EPA needs to take a step back and follow their own guidelines rather than interfering with states’ authority under the law. Under the Clean Water Act (CWA), individual states have significant authority and the resp... Full story

  • Time to reauthorize the Ex-Im Bank

    Don C. Brunell, Business Commentator|Updated Oct 15, 2015

U.S. companies are starting to feel the pinch from Congress killing the Export-Import Bank in June. Congress’ move is increasingly putting U.S. manufacturers at a competitive disadvantage. Not only are we losing orders to foreign competitors, but some domestic manufacturers are shifting jobs to countries where those banks exist. General Electric announced plans to move 350 jobs from its Waukesha, Wis., gas engine plant to a factory in Canada, which has its own export-import bank. The company, which supplies jet engines to B...
