Congratulations to the Lind Health Center Board for its collaborative approach, continuing support and efforts to re-open the Lind Medical Clinic. These unselfish individuals recognized the need for a clinic in Lind and did what it took to make it happen … and the community is the winner! During these times of putting profits before people, t...

  • Upcoming election is best chance for change

    Updated Oct 13, 2011

Soon ballots for the upcoming election will be showing up in mailboxes. Three of the seats on the hospital board – a majority – are being contested. By now, most or all voters have probably made up their minds on the rights and wrongs of matters, and there is little point in rehashing the merits. If you were and remain upset by the actions of the board in January, and its continuing actions since then, this is your one and only chance to change things. Make no mistake: the hospital, and thus the Emergency Room that could lite...

  • Cast your vote for change

    Updated Oct 13, 2011

The last eight months have been a financial nosedive for the East Adams Rural Hospital District. The arrogance of the administration and some members on the board has been appalling. I am writing to support the re-election of Stacey Plummer, and to elect Jeff Reynolds and Jerry Snyder to the EARH board. All three candidates have indicated a need for a change, while their opponents talk about “educating the public and healing the community.” Never have they said, “We need a change to accommodate the public that the board...

  • Area school boards, superintendents address House Education Committee

Mark Smith, Courtesy of the Davenport Times|Updated Oct 13, 2011

It was like getting the same test question multiple times with only one answer required. From Eastern Washington school districts large and small, members of the state’s House Education Committee heard Oct. 5 in Davenport that the right answer in regards to graduation requirements and that tricky issue of school consolidation is to let the locals decide. More than 100 school board members, superintendents, principals, teachers and community members participated in the legislative work session in the DHS auditorium. Among t...

  • I Can See Clearly Now...

    Dale Anderson|Updated Oct 13, 2011

Due to some unforeseen circumstances or maybe some circumstances that were in the making for a while, I have been able to help with the chain gang at the home high school football games this fall. Since it is only my first season doing this job, I’ve been called a rookie by Garry Reilly. Granted, Reilly has been working the chains for over 20 years. Bruce Benzel is in his 40th and final year running the down marker and Ron Kison marks the chain with the clip just in case t...
