As many community members may have heard, a portion of the John Wayne Trail was almost closed. This year the state representatives from the 9th district attempted to close a 130-mile-long section of the trail east of the Columbia River. This was put into the state’s 2015 capital budget but was later nullified due to a typo. The line was supposed to read a closure from “the Columbia River to Malden”, instead it read from “the Columbia River to the Columbia River.” The portion of the trail that was almost closed runs through A...

The big story from this weekend was the Homecoming game in Ritzville. Everyone believed in the Broncos and the potential that they were bringing each week but the ascendance of the Northwest Christian (NWC) Crusaders in just their third season was turning heads. They had the Broncos’ full attention. For anyone that knows the history of the private school north of Spokane, it was just a matter of time when they would have the football athletes that would compete for a league t...
While we have engaged in a national debate on the President’s controversial nuclear deal with Iran, seemingly forgotten has been Iran’s horrific attacks on our fellow citizens. No matter how much time may have passed, however, we must not forget that justice remains to be won on behalf of the hundreds of American victims of Iranian state-sponsored terrorism. Since the 1970s, Iran’s regime has actively provided support, including provision of weapons, training, and funds, for terrorist organizations. These groups inclu...
To the Lind Community: Time is fast approaching to cast your votes again for the Town of Lind’s council positions, and I ask for your vote to re-elect me for position No. 4. Throughout my participation and experiences as a council member, I’ve dedicated time to research, to investigate, ask questions of professionals and to gain valuable experience and information by listening to...
We live in a beautiful place. I look out and see sagebrush and late blooming native flowers, wheat stubble, millennia-old scab rock, and sky. Big, blue sky. Our semi-arid desert climate can be harsh and abrasive; little rain, drastic temperatures, and that darned wind. This is where we live, a place to take pride in; a place I love to share with friends, family, and strangers. I’m sure you do, too. It was recently brought to light that one of our few state recreational resources was nearly lost to us last month. Nearly 130 m... Full story

It may even beat the all-time total of 3.64 million set in 2010. The good news is more people are experiencing the wonders of the nation’s oldest national park established in 1872. The bad news is there is more traffic congestion and trash. To accommodate the crowds, Yellowstone has made a concerted effort to rebuild its roads and construct new facilities. That...
