The Washtucna-Benge Lions Club is hosting an evening of festivities during bingo night on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Lions Den on Main Street in Washtucna. The events begin at 7 p.m. and the club provides free popcorn to all in attendance. For the 35th year, the Mennonite Country Auction and Relief Sale is returning to the Menno Mennonite grounds on Saturday, Oct. 6. Breakfast is available from 7-9 a.m. followed by the opening of vendor booths and the auction, which begins at noon. Donate unwanted household or leftover items from weekend yard sales to the Goodwill Industries truck coming to Lind from Oct. 12 through Oct. 14. Items accepted for payable donation include: Clothing, CDs, DVDs, purses, shoes and books. Other items are accepted but only the listed items are paid for. Goodwill Industries have offered to pay 20 cents per pound for items donated to the truck. Three members of the staff of The Ritzville Adams County Journal attended the 125th gathering of the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA) in Yakima Sept. 27-29. The event serves as an annual gathering for more than 100 community newspapers from around the state. The Caring Neighbors recently made a $1,350 donation to the H.E. Gritman Senior Center. The money will be used to help purchase a heating and air conditioning unit as well as windows. The center has had several fundraisers and community donations to pay for this project. Caring Neighbors is a non-profit entity established by Big Bend Electric Co-op. Ritzville was the surprise location of a mystery tour provided by Alpha Omega Tours & Charters on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Fifty-seven passengers boarded the charter bus early on Tuesday morning without any inclination of where they would be spending the remainder of the day. Homecoming week for the LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus football team ended with a 62-20 victory over the Colton Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 28. The Tigercats remain undefeated in the Southwest 1B league, defeating both league teams by over 40 points.
