Saturday afternoon was a great experience for the Lady Broncos. For the first time in recent memory, they defeated the Northwest Christian Lady Crusaders in league volleyball. And, they did it in grand fashion, shutting down NWC and sweeping them in three games, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-23. “Northwest Christian seemed rattled and out of rotation at times,” said Kathy McAnally who is filling in for head coach Cari Galbreath. “Our girls played extremely well. They were just really steady from beginning to end.” Dalyn Killian...
The Broncos did what needed to be done to halt Reardan — they put a stop to the Indians’ running game. The result was a sweet victory, 27-13 in the Northest 2B League opener. Most people are aware that if you change your mind a lot it could make people have doubts about your character. We live in a rapidly changing world where instant communication gives us information that can cause us to wonder if our first impressions were correct. Because of this, I try not to make hasty decisions. Our President changed his mind a lot recently and these have been regarding important issues. I don’t remember the year that we went to instant communications, but it has been with us long enough that we should k...
Two recent supporters of the plans of EARH District No. 2 commissioners appear unable to address the concerns of those who are not so enamored with the current plans of the hospital commissioners. In fact, they seem to need to invent and misstate the opinions of those they oppose. Perhaps we could seek clarity if not agreement. Once upon a time, the commissioners decided to build a new hospital. They stashed money in some fund, while asking the voters of District No. 2 to vote for operating and maintenance monies. The...
Let’s get down to the real Hospital issues. 1. I truly believe we need a critical access hospital in this community. I do not agree that another bond issue combined with the tax dollars that have already been collected should be spent on a new hospital facility. We should meet the State and Federal requirements and, as Jerry Snyder said when he was running for office, “Save our hospital.” 2. The voting public is expecting this hospital to remain open. If the board and administration does not heed the 45-day warning and the d...

Maybe you heard last Friday about Seattle Mariner manager Eric Wedge’s decision to not return as the team’s skipper. Wedge had a very trying year, to say the least. Things looked pretty good coming out of spring training but injuries to some key players, and poor performances from others made it very difficult for the club to get on a winning streak. The Mariners didn’t sweep a series until the All-Star break, which is a long stretch. When the M’s returned to play, they sw...
After spending a couple of days last week in Washington, D.C., I wonder how Congress and President Obama will settle their differences without hurting the taxpayers or crippling our struggling economy. There is a high-stakes duel going on inside the Beltway. House Republicans have approved a continuing resolution that provides stopgap funding for the federal government after Sept. 30, except for Obamacare. Their position is that Senate Democrats and the president can avoid a government shutdown if they approve the...
As I watched recently – along with the rest of the community – the demolition of the old high school building, I thought of how sad it was to witness. If the building had been remodeled, it could have been a centrally located showpiece for our community. But when those plans failed and it increasingly digressed into an eyesore, its ultimate fate became long overdue. Several thousand students graduated from the old high school in its 70 years of use. The teachers and administrators used the classrooms and hallways to edu...
