Two book clubs in Ritzville have announced meetings for the month of October. The annual meeting of Cattle Producers of Washington (CPoW) is set for Friday, Oct. 21, at the Pillar Rock Grill in Moses Lake from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The all day and evening event is $60 and will include two panel discussions. One will focus on CPoW livestock processing facility and marketing of meats and the second will concentrate on the wolves in Washington state. There will be time for questions from the audience. Mildred Woodyard, former Washtucna resident, died Sept. 23, 2011, in DeKalb, Ill. She was born in 1919 and lived in Washtucna until 2007. She married Jim Woodyard and has three children, Ella, Chip and Susan. Services are pending. Burial is planned at Washtucna at a later date....

The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce will once again coordinate the Toddler Trick-or-Treat event. The Halloween activity will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 31. The activity serves as a safe, daylight opportunity for families to take young children out for Halloween. The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual community awards banquet and auction on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the C.J. Newland American Legion Memorial Hall. Where is summer? It seems that just a few weeks ago we welcomed the bone warming heat of the summer sun, and now the mild and gentle feel of fall has befallen us. Aug. 29, 2011 Stephen M. Clippinger entered a guilty plea to one count of second-degree taking of a vehicle without permission in a case filed on April 25, 2011. Judge Richard W. Miller in Adams County Superior Court sentenced Clippinger to 30 days in the Adams County Jail.
