Kittitas was able to score once against the Broncos’ junior varsity squad, which spent the majority of the second half on the field. The abbreviated second half comes from a change in the rules for 2B football that was implemented last season. W...

Since I was referred to by name in a letter last week, I suppose I should say something in response. The writer seemed, in a confused way, to feel that any suggestion that some members of the community may be misinformed about the hospital facility and the proposed bond issue is not “logical.” But, just as one small example, as recently as two weeks ago a letter appeared in this paper claiming emphatically that “all we need is an emergency room, lab and a heliport;” that is like saying I don’t need arms and legs, just fing...
Once you believe you have seen it all, the Government steps to a new low. At the Sept. 18 City of Sprague Council meeting, the City Council passed Resolution No. 273 “Council meeting public comment policy.” This Resolution established the public may only comment at the end of the Council meeting during the “Public Comment Period,” but at this same meeting Mayor Mike Evans stated there would be no more “Public Comment Periods” during Council meetings. Thus in one City Council meeting the public has been completely silenced. M...
A few months ago, around mid-June, on a Monday morning at 10 a.m., we ladies gathered for our usual golf game followed by lunch at the Ritzville Golf Course clubhouse. One among us was struggling with personal tragedy, and as she stood alone, organizing her clubs on a cart, I approached and greeted her. She turned to me, spoke three or four words, and suddenly teared up, unable to control her sorrow. I put my arms around her in an effort to comfort her, and within a few seconds we were surrounded by the other women who had... Full story
Thinking back to the Sunday evening storm of major proportions – it seemed to cut a swath through our town, leaving many homes and yards virtually untouched, while others in its path were hit with winds of speeds not experienced around here for many years, if ever! In my mind it was certainly comparable to a tornado. The amazing thing about this storm – when it hit it created such an impact that literally the insides of our homes turned brown with dust. We’ve been through dust storms that have cut visibility down to zero, but...

NFL fans should remember the hubbub from a year ago when the referees were locked out by the NFL owners. Replacement officials were used for the preseason as well as regular season games. The fans at these games were very critical of every call made by the replacements whether they were right or wrong. Most of the calls were right of course but the explanations were usually an exercise in futility. Fans booed and the football pundits piled on these guys for not being...
