The Adams County Historical Society will hold their annual dinner and program on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Lind Community Church Fellowship Hall. The Second Harvest food truck will be in Ritzville on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The produce, nutritious perishable products and other groceries are available free of charge for all families in need of food assistance. The annual Thursday night bowling league is preparing to start on Thursday, Sept. 21. Individuals who are interested in participating in the league are asked to attend the meeting at 6:30 p.m., followed by bowling at 7 p.m. During the meeting, the league is looking to elect a new secretary/treasurer, or at least to fill the treasurer’s position. The Lind Senior Center will be having a Chinese Dinner on Oct. 1. The meal will be served between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Lind Senior Center located at 117 North I Street. The meal will consist of: sweet and sour chicken, rice, egg rolls, Asian cabbage salad and apple crisp. The annual Mennonite Country Auction and Relief Sale is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event has been held in Ritzville on the first Saturday of October for the past 40 years, and is expecting to welcome even more visitors to the central location. During their Sept. 11 meeting, the Adams County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing regarding the draft of the county’s American With Disabilities Act (ADA) Self Evaluation and Transition Plan. Public Works Director Todd O’Brien said because Adams County receives federal funding, staff are required to draft a plan. During their Sept. 12 meeting, the Lind Town Council approved a $1,340 contract with Big Sky Industrial to inspect the condition of the sewer main on Sixth Street, from North S to North E streets. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office assisted with a high-speed pursuit that traveled through and ended in Adams County on Sept. 12. The pursuit began in Franklin County, and Franklin County, Washington State Patrol and Connell Police Department pursued the car before traveling into Adams County. After a short break from the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair, a group of local exhibitors packed up their livestock and traveled to Othello to compete in the Adams County Fair on Sept. 13-16. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos Volleyball team took a break from their regular season schedule to compete in the Spikefest Tournament in Rosalia, Sept. 16. In pool play, the Lady Broncos split all of their matches, 1-1, against Saint George’s, Colton, Garfield-Palouse and Liberty. When Barbara Johnston realized she was going blind, it changed everything. The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Lady Tigercats have started the season strong, with nonleague competitions against upcoming league opponents and multiple tournaments. For the first time in recent history, there will be an entire team of cross country athletes running in a Broncos uniform this season. This year marks the first season of both a boys and girls cross country team, solely of students from Sprague. The Friday night lights shone bright in Ritzville on Sept. 15 as the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos hosted the Northwest Christian Crusaders.
