During the past few months, community members have reported receiving emails claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to Leffel, Otis & Warwick, P.S. Jim Leffel encourages any individual who receives an email pretending to be from the IRS not respond or open any attachments in the email, as it is a scam. Ritzville Fire and Ambulance responded to a semi truck rollover accident on southbound US 395 on Sept. 12 around 5:30 p.m. The driver of the semi truck, 73-year-old Gene Nelson, attempted to pull over after being stung by a bee. Nelson, a resident of Hawley, Minn., tried to exit the roadway but drove behind the guardrail, rolling the vehicle into a ravine. Nelson was not wearing a restraint at the time of the accident. Washington State Patrol troopers responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident nine miles west of Ritzville on I-90 at 12:22 p.m. on Sept. 12. Spokane driver Lisa Apperson, 54, had been reaching down when the vehicle drifted off the roadway and towards the median. Apperson overcorrected, causing her 2000 Chevrolet Blazer to roll and block both lanes. Apperson was injured in the accident and transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center. Sterling Bank in Ritzville has again partnered with KXLY TV News 4 for the annual Coats 4 Kids drive. The drive began on Monday, Sept. 17, and continues until Friday, Oct. 12. The Sterling Bank branch in Ritzville is a drop-off location for new or gently used winter coats. All of the coats collected at Sterling Bank are distributed to local youth in need. The LaCrosse-Washtucna Tigercats football team showed improvement and proved to be a strong team last Friday night with a 40-point win over Wilbur-Creston. The Tigercats rolled to a 54-14 victory. C. Lloyd Rushmeier passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, after a long struggle with cancer. He was born to Charles and Pauline Rushmeier of Lind on August 28, 1925. He graduated from Lind High School in 1943, where he was a three sports letterman. He married Violet Scheller of Ritzville in 1947.
