  • School enrollment remains steady

    Dale Brown, The Journal|Updated Sep 15, 2023

RITZVILLE – Student enrollment in Lind-Ritzville schools is steady. Total enrollment for all schools in the Lind-Ritzville cooperative clocked in at 588 students this year, according to schools Superintendent Don Vanderholm. That’s in line with previous years, both pre- and post-COVID restrictions. Since 2018, enrollment numbers for the entire school district — comprising Lind and Ritzville elementary schools, the combined middle school and Lind-Ritzville High School — have fluctuated between 588 and 610 students. • Military service to America avoids student debt

    Don C. Brunell|Updated Sep 12, 2023

With students returning to college campuses, it is time to consider other ways for them to pay for tuition, books and living expenses. Too often, they resort to borrowing. Now, student loan forgiveness is spotlighted as the solution when it is only part of the answer. There are other ways. Student indebtedness is mounting. It is exacerbated by rising “total costs to attend” college (COA). The growth rate exceeds inflation and interest rates on student loans are often hig...

  • Fall, a great time to be alive

    Slim Randles|Updated Sep 12, 2023

Fall is the polishing time. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. For some reason, the spirit that guides us made our experiences in fall the peak of the year’s efforts. Their bodies are lean and aggressive and they tend to lose all good sense. I don’t think for a minute that it is just a calendar coincidence that fall is when mos...
