A small, energetic boy, Connor was suddenly worn out and unable to retain fluids, causing the family to have to rush him to the hospital. • Spending money on ‘wants’ not needs

    Updated Sep 13, 2012

Kudos to Barry Boyer that he sees the true impact of Project 56! I, as he, believe that school levies to support our student needs is a community responsibility. Need is the key word not “want!” Project 56 is a “want” because if it was a “need” it would have been on the ballot shortly after it’s introduction 10 plus years ago. Petitions are the norm to give the public insight to why certain projects should be given voters choice. Recently the City of Ritzville spent monies for a skateboard park for the kids to keep them fro...

  • Medicare faces financial ruin

    Updated Sep 13, 2012

I learned a lot about Medicare in the last year. A knee replacement (that went south) and an infection I picked up at the hospital enabled me to extend my hospital stay. I was then taken to a recovery center for a total of 52 days before I was able to go home. I am thankful that my teacher’s retirement insurance covered basically everything that Medicare didn’t! Our country and its Medicare and Medicaid systems are broke and they can’t afford to keep paying such a large percentage of the medical costs! Medicare paid out $... Full story

  • Dr. Jenkins will be missed

    Updated Sep 13, 2012

I have heard from several people that they will not be keeping Dr. Jill Jenkins on as a working doctor at the clinic after the end of September. I was very saddened to hear this. I have seen Dr. Jenkins for a while now and it has been great using the clinic as my health care facility. I found her very personable and also very informative. I have looked for a doctor that I could really connect with for over 12 years, since I moved here from the west side of the state, she came and I couldn’t have been more thrilled. Now she i...

  • 1-1...

    Dale Anderson|Updated Sep 13, 2012

There were a lot of Ritzville people at Martin Stadium last Saturday, a vast majority of them were wearing crimson while a few were wearing EWU red. I was wearing the red EWU shirt with the unassuming National Champions below the logo. Just enough pride but not a lot of the “in your face” stuff that some fans might have worn. Yes, it has been over 100 years since Cheney Normal, EWCE, EWSC and finally EWU played a football game against WSC/WSU. This was definitely the odd...

However, the 800-pound gorilla in the room was not train traffic, but the commodity those trains would carry: coal. In Washington, coal has been shipped by train for decades. Currently, about three to four coal trains a day pass through Clark County. Rose said it’s hard to predict specifics at this point, but if proposed export terminals at L...
