8 Years Ago Adams County News August 3, 1898 Supreme Court The supreme court of Washington as now constituted consists of four republicans and one democrat. James H. Lewis, a democrat and W.C. Jones, a silver republican, will probably be candidates for re-election to Congress, so these two positions will probably be allowed the populists. Above all things, great care should be exercised in the selection of candidates for the supreme bench. Men will a pull, cranks, worn-out...

  • Lie or an 'ad lib'

    Sen. Mark Schoesler|Updated Aug 1, 2023

There’s no question the governor misled the people last year when claiming his cap-and-tax scheme would add “pennies” to the cost of gas once it took full effect in 2023. Gov. Jay Inslee has a degree in economics, as he reminded everyone at a news conference last week. And, yet, he assumed oil companies would simply absorb the added cost of complying with cap-and-tax? Inslee came up with a new lie at that news conference, as part of a feeble effort to claim his scheme has n...

    Abigail Beaton, The Journal|Updated Aug 1, 2023

The U.S. Wheat Association reported a rise in wheat pricing by an average of 23 cents. Corn rose 20 cents and soybeans rose 29 cents in their third weekly price report for the month of July. The report noted the price hikes may be due in part to the European Union’s request that the ban on Ukrainian wheat imports be extended as well as the subsequent Russian bombing of the Ukr...

Can you teach me to throw, I said not today I’ve got a lot to do, he said that’s okay…” It was certainly a sad statement but like most all of Chapin’s songs a real story being told. I’ve often thought about the words turned ten… and can you teach me to throw… and my first thoughts were, ‘You hav...
