On July 10, the Town of Lind sent a letter to the Lind School District and the Adams County Cemetery District No. 3, requesting that the entities reduce the amount of water to irrigate the properties. The school district and cemetery are the largest consumers of water in Lind. Due to the unusually high demand for water this summer, the town’s well is unable to pump the desired amount of water to the properties while still serving the citizens of Lind. Mayor Jamie Schmunk and Water System Operator Joe Pessutti have been c...
A brother’s love never diminishes, even years after a sibling has passed. The bond is strong and when a sibling dies in a tragic incident, the pain is just that much more difficult to bear. For Mike Haase, it has been a long time since his brother, Donald Haase, drowned in 1958. They say time heals all wounds, but no amount of time erases the loss. Recently, Ron Bolin delivered Mike an unexpected gift that brought a smile to his face, a tear and rush of memories of his b...
During the many decades of both public and private law enforcement on both sides of the Cascades, I have had the opportunity to work with many prosecutors and their deputies. Some were in that public office just to use it as a stepping-stone to a big law firm; others were there to make a difference. In King County, I saw young deputy prosecutors and attorneys run for and become elected to Superior Court. One of these was a young attorney that I admired as she rose from a district court judge, to Washington State Supreme...
I am writing in support of Randy Flyckt for Superior Court Judge. There are many improvements that can be made to improve the criminal justice system in Adams County. In order to make those improvements the county needs a superior court judge who understands, supports and cares about the criminal justice system and the way it improves the lives of county residents. Randy Flyckt is that person. Randy has been the Adams County Prosecutor for nearly 10 years and he has been practicing law since 2002. He has a keen understanding...
We are supporting and voting for Randy Flyckt for Adams County Superior Court Judge. We encourage those that live in Adams County to join us. Randy Flyckt will bring with him to the bench a breadth of current experience from his private and public service as an attorney. His strong background of legal expertise includes overseeing and directing other attorney’s work, prosecuting cases from felonies to misdemeanors; advising and representing Adams County on civil matters and managing juvenile court caseloads. Of the t...
I urge you to vote for Randy Flyckt for Superior Court Judge. I had the privilege of serving as Mr. Flyckt’s Chief Deputy Prosecutor for over four and a half years, between 2006 and 2010. Not only is Randy Flyckt the finest prosecutor I ever worked for, he is one of the most extraordinarily talented men I have ever met, and I would stake my life on Randy Flyckt being not just a good judge but a great one. Randy Flyckt has a keen analytical mind and can dissect legal issues as well as any appellate judge. He is also an e...
On Oct. 4, 2010, Brian Miller registered to vote in Adams County declaring under oath that his residential address is in Ritzville. On May 9, 2012, Brian Miller filed his Washington State Declaration of Candidacy for the position of Adams County Superior Court Judge. Again, he declared that his residential address is in Ritzville. A residential address is the place where you live. Where one goes home to every night, eats, sleeps and hangs your hat. Whatever happened to the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? In...
I read Eric Maier’s editorial from the April 19 edition of The Journal, and I agree with him. I think there are a few points that could be added to the list of items he stresses. All a person has to do is look at the history of Eastern Washington and we see that our railroads became a part of our lives because of the need to ship farm products. These products, when sold, brought new money into the towns. This money was spent and the cycle of money created more jobs. This still happens today as farmers’ needs for the farming o...
The LRS Broncos boys’ basketball team wrapped up their summer basketball schedule in mid-July. It was a very successful summer for the boys’ team. Because of the great commitment from the kids this summer, the team will greatly benefit from this in the upcoming season. This summer helped the athletes become excited about the upcoming season and gain confidence. The LRS team had a lot of wins over good, competitive teams this summer. The team is ready to make that leap and hope...
