At the Monday meeting of the Adams County Commissioners two bids for the second phase of the Danekas Road project were received for review by public works. Central Washington Asphalt from Moses Lake and Granite Construction also from Moses Lake submitted bids for the paving of Danekas Road. The Washtucna Pool is expected to open on Thursday, July 24, for public use and swimming lessons. The pool began to be filled on Monday, and it is expected to take almost three days for the pool to fill and chemicals to be working. The July 22 Lind Town Council meeting began with a public hearing regarding the close out of the Waste Water Treatment Plant project. Alan Gay of USKH now Stantech answered questions and addressed concerns from the community. The Ritzville Downtown Development Association is approaching its goal to purchase a digital projector for the Ritz Theatre. The association has raised approximately $40,000 after the latest garage sale fundraiser, $10,000 short of the goal of $50,000 to purchase the projector and the software required to play new release movies. The Ritzville Police Department executed a search warrant on East Cherry Avenue on Thursday, July 17, to check on the health of a multitude of cats reported at the residence. Prior to issuing the search warrant, the RPD had received numerous complaints and statements regarding the lack of care for the cats within the residence, and had been told more than 40 cats resided in the home. The 2014 wheat harvest season officially began approximately July 10 when the first loads of grain arrived at Union Elevator and Ritzville Warehouse Companies’ terminals. Harvest has begun all over the county; with Ritzville Warehouses’ Roof Station and Union Elevators’ Bruce Station being the first to receive any commodity. Ritzville emergency personnel and Washington State Patrol responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident at 7:13 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, at the Paha-Packard exit on westbound I-90. The driver of the vehicle, Timothy Jorden of Longview, and a five-year-old child were both injured in the accident. After being transported to East Adams Rural Hospital, the juvenile was then transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center. Jorden was airlifted to Deaconess Medical Center. The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce needs volunteers for its annual ice cream booth at the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair. Volunteers are needed to fill shifts during the four-day event. This year at least one volunteer per shift is required to have their food handlers’ permit. The permit course is taken online and does not require much time. Registration for the 2014 Ritzville Community Parade and the Ritzville Community Junior Parade is open. The parade will begin on August 30, at 10:45 a.m. To register for the parade, entry forms must be completed by August 27 with a statement of insurance coverage. Gale O. Gfeller, died on July 20 in Ritzville. He was born on Nov. 6, 1930, in Lind to Otto and Edith Gfeller. Gale married Imra Bossert in Kamloops, British Columbia on Feb. 16, 1955.
