Family and friends gathered together on Sunday, July 1 at the Wheat Growers Building to celebrate 50 years of marriage between Del and Carol Schwisow. The couple had married on July 1, 1962. Charles Lester Snouffer of Louisburg, Kan., passed away Friday, July 6, at North Point Skilled Nursing Care in Paola, Kan., at the age of 97. He was born May 12, 1915, to Verlin V. and Mary Alice Phillips Snouffer, on the family farm near Somerset, Kan., becoming the third generation of Snouffers to live there. Violet Kohl passed away on Monday, July 2, at Mission Healthcare in Bellevue at the age of 99. She was born on Feb. 23, 1913, in Lind to Jacob and Maria Pflugrad. The family lived in Lind until Jacob retired in 1926, when they moved to Walla Walla. She married Johnnie Harl Kohl on June 21, 1934, in Walla Walla. Their marriage continued for 62 years, until Johnnie’s death on Dec. 21, 1996. Richard “Dick” Leonard passed away on July 9, in Spokane, at the age of 86. He was born to on July 9, 1926, in Northport, Wash., to Alva and Dorothy Leonard. He attended West Valley High School and joined the Navy on July 9, 1943, at the age of 17. After returning in 1947, he continued his military service in the reserves until 1955.
