After the maintenance and operation (M&O) levy failed in Washtucna last year, the levy is again finding its way back to voters’ ballots for the upcoming Aug. 6 primary election. Ritzville and Lind parks and recreation districts are also submitted M&O levies for the primary election. Ballots are being sent to voters on July 19 for the primary election and all ballots must be returned by Aug. 6. Caring Neighbors recently donated $1,000 to Adams County Fire District No. 7 to help pay for the purchase of a defibrillator. The $1,000 donation was presented at the eighth annual Washtucna Auto Show and the committee for the show made a matching donation to the volunteer fire department. The Ritzville Relay For Life kicked off at the Ritzville Rodeo Grounds on Friday night with an estimated 80 participants joining together in an evening of fundraising in an effort to raise money for cancer research. Duane “Bunk” Koch died at the age of 71 in his niece’s home in Rogers, Arkansas, on July 13. Bunk was born Oct. 7, 1941, in Ritzville to Berthold and Hilda (Heiydt) Koch, the first born of twins to the couple. There is a question I’d like to have answered. How come there is no surgical unit in the plans for the new hospital? It seems to me that minor surgery would be a good thing to help make a hospital profitable. Why is it necessary to ship everyone to Spokane who needs minor surgery?
