The Caring Neighbors board recently donated $600 to the Ritzville Library District No. 2. The library staff members are planning to start a “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program to promote early literacy in this area. The donated money will be used to purchase 50 books, CDs and book bags. Caring Neighbors is a nonprofit entity established by Big Bend Electric Co-op. Due to drought conditions during the 2014 grazing season emergency haying and grazing of Conservation Reserve Program lands as been authorized for Adams, Benton, Douglas, Franklin, Grant, Lincoln, Walla Walla and Yakima counties. Participants may not both hay and graze the same acreage. Programs such as the grass filter strips or contracts enrolled under the State Acres for Wildlife CRP-SAFE programs are not eligible for emergency haying or grazing.
