  • Check thy ego once in awhile

    Dale Anderson|Updated Jun 29, 2017

It doesn’t take long when a season ends, or even when the playoffs are going on when the conversation takes place as to who is the very best player of all time. There are enough players out there that really believe they are better than everyone past and present. We don’t have the ability to time travel and I don’t care how many movies or TV shows are made that show things that might have been it just won’t happen We can’t send LeBron James back to the 1950s and 60s to see how...

  • Long-due accountability for veterans

Congressman Dan Newhouse, Fourth District|Updated Jun 29, 2017

Like many Americans, I have been very concerned about the reports of scandals and incidents of mistreatment of our veterans by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in recent years. I have heard stories firsthand from veterans in Central Washington about their negative experiences at VA facilities and their frustrations with the bureaucratic process. • Good news from Washington’s boatyards

    Don C. Brunell, Business Commentator|Updated Jun 29, 2017

We can all use a dose of good news these days and there is some flowing from our state’s boatyards. When we think of maritime industries, we often focus on the mammoth ocean-going ships loaded with containers docking in Seattle, Tacoma and Portland; or, the U.S. Navy shipyard in Bremerton. While Vigor’s Seattle and Portland dockyards repair Navy and Coast Guard vessels, our warships primarily are built on the East Coast. Giant oceangoing freighters are constructed, and mostly repaired, in foreign facilities located mai...

  • Legislative Commentary

Senator Mark Schoesler, Ninth District|Updated Jun 29, 2017

It’s one thing for the news media to report on the possibility of a state-government shutdown, but now organizations with political agendas are trying to make hay out of the situation. The Washington State Democrats and the activists at a liberal group called Fuse Washington have taken to calling me “Shutdown Schoesler,” behind the ridiculous claim that I have kept our Senate majority from negotiating a new state budget in good faith. Through their contacts in Olympia, groups like these know full well that Republicans and D...
