  • Oestreich to compete in All-State football game

    After being named to the 2B first team offensive line for the Earl Barden All-State Football game last spring, Skyler Oestreich is preparing for the competition this weekend. Oestreich is one of 11 athletes throughout the state named to the first team. He also made honorable mention for defense. The Earl Barden All-Star Football game begins at 1 p.m. on June 25 at East Valley High School in Moxee. During his high school career, Oestreich was a member of two state champion teams.   • Annual fireworks show June 30

    The annual Community Fireworks Show is set to light up the sky on June 30 at dusk. The show is sponsored by the East Adams Care Center at 406 South Jackson Street in Ritzville. At 7:30 p.m., the Hillyard Belles are performing on the EACC lawn. The live music is free, and attendees can also enjoy free popcorn, water and lemonade. Hot dogs and snow cones are for sale for $1 each. Residents are recommended to bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy the fireworks show from the EACC lawn.     Starting July 5, Ritzville residents can expect to see a detour in place on a portion of First Avenue. Roadwork will begin on July 5, closing East First Avenue from Columbia Street to Baumann Road until July 8. A detour is in place on North Columbia Street, around to Main Avenue and East Templin Road. The road will be closed to East Danekas Road, but the Baumann Road railroad crossing will remain open.     Area farmers are invited to attend the bi-annual JR Miller Farms winter wheat strip trials and dinner on July 6 at 4:30 p.m. at the farm of Mike and Marci Miller.   • Water shortage discussion highlights Lind Council meeting

    The Town of Lind experienced a water shortage, beginning on June 6, which led to concerns regarding the lack of water in the aquifer and the potential of the well failing. During the June 14 meeting of the Lind Town Council, Stantec Engineer Alan Gay presented on the findings and the current situation of Well 7 in Lind.   • Beautification project completed at the Burroughs’ Home museum

    The historic Burroughs’ Home museum had recent landscaping work completed, including the addition of boxwood shrubs and old-fashioned carnations. These plants were typically found in gardens surrounding 1900s homes. A Thrivent Financial Action Grant of $250 provided for shrubs, flowers, bark, and t-shirts and lunch for the volunteers.   • Lind Swimming Pool officially opens for the summer

    After a minor delay due to water issues, the Lind Pool is now operational and open for all area residents. The pool is open from 1 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. daily, with the exception of the 5-7 p.m. closure on Saturdays and Sundays. Adult swim continues to be offered from 6-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Every Friday from 8:30-10 p.m. is Teen Night for any individuals between the ages of 13 and 18.
