    The Washtucna School District has announced students maintaining honor roll status during the 2013-14 school year and for the second semester of school, as well as those students recording perfect attendance. The honor roll students are between seventh and 12th grade at the school.   • Residents reminded to be cautious when barbecuing

    Ritzville City Fire Department released a short list of safety rules to follow when barbecuing. Residents should maintain sufficient space between the grill and the home, and constantly supervise the grill to keep children and pets away. If using a charcoal grill, the fire department reminds individuals to not add fluid to hot coals. Gas grill hoses should always be checked before using the barbecue.   • Theft of priceless bench leaves Lind community saddened

    This past weekend the Lind community happily hosted hundreds of guests at the annual Combine Derby and from all indications a good time was had by all—all except the Lind Senior Center members who found themselves missing their handcrafted bench on Sunday morning. Built by the late Howard Heil and treasured by all the members. The bench had not been bolted into place, as had other purchased and placed around the downtown area.     John U. Pavlik died June 17 in Ritzville. He was born March 22, 1921, to John U. and Lottie (Delamater) Pavlik in Buffalo, N.D. John grew up in Buffalo, N.D.; where he graduated from Buffalo High School in 1938 and later became the publisher of the Buffalo Express; a weekly newspaper in his home town.     Sharon Anderson has been selected to attend Tech Trek, a seven day science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) camp to be held July 20 through July 26 at Pacific Lutheran University. Tech Trek is an American Association of University Women sponsored learning experience for girls who are entering the eighth grade. Anderson applied for the camp and was selected by her teachers.     The Ritzville Downtown Development Association received a $1,500 Northwest FCS/CoBank Rural Community Grant, which will be used for the Ritz Theatre project.
