The Goodwill Donation Drive truck is going to be at the Ritzville Nazarene Church on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Donations accepted at the truck are new or used household items, clothing, shoes, books and other regular items. The 2014 LaCrosse Farmers Festival will begin Friday, June 20, and run until Sunday, June 22. With an undertone of concern due to the lack of rainfall in the area, a large multitude of farmers and students gathered at the Lind Dryland Research Center for the 98th Annual Lind Field Day on June 12 to hear about the studies conducted at the facility. As one of the first owners of The Journal, John Pavlik wrote his legacy with his typesetting machines. On the evening of June 16, Pavlik died in his sleep at the age of 93. Pavlik began his career in news early, at age 15. He learned from his father, who was then the publisher of the Buffalo Express in Buffalo, North Dakota. Tyler Fryberger II has joined the staff of The Journal as a part-time reporter, effective June 17. Fryberger’s responsibilities include writing articles, attending and reporting on area meetings, and photographing local events. A 2009 Ritzville High School graduate, Fryberger is the son of Tyler and Rita Fryberger, who reside in Lind. When the dust settled in the Lind Lions Club Arena on Saturday evening, Eric Labes and Palmer Phillips stood atop their combines as the 2014 Lind Combine Demolition Derby champions. The two battled to the end, but judges called it a tie, allowing both drivers to split the winnings. Due to ongoing drought conditions in Washington State, Adams County along with Franklin, Grant, and Lincoln counties have been designated eligible to implement the Livestock Feed Program. The Livestock Feed Program makes direct payments to eligible producers to help support their production through drought or pasture loss from fire.
