The H.E. Gritman Senior Center is hosting the monthly pancake breakfast on Friday, June 14, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. This is the last breakfast until the monthly meal resumes next fall. Pancakes, biscuits and gravy, a choice of ham or sausage, and juice or coffee, are on the menu with a suggested donation of $5 per person. The H.E. Residents can donate unwanted household items or leftover items from weekend yard sales to the Goodwill Industries truck coming to the Ritzville Nazarene Church on the afternoon of Saturday, June 15, in coordination with the annual Ritzville Community Yard Sale. Goodwill Industries have offered to pay per pound for items donated to the truck and all monies collected will go toward Nazarene Youth Group summer camps and youth activities. Between May 20 and June 2 extra law enforcement patrolled Grant and Adams County roads looking for unbuckled drivers and passengers, and motorists using their cell phones or other electronic devices. During these patrols, 88 seatbelt infractions were written, in addition to 10 cell phone and texting tickets. The Lind Community Pool is open and ready for the summer season. Opening day was Monday, June 10. Regular pool hours for the 2013 season are daily from 12-5 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m., with lap swimming from 6-7 p.m. First session of swimming lessons will be June 17-20, and June 24-27. The 26th annual Lind Combine Demolition Derby ended with a tie for the title between Jim Oswald and Brian Jeske on Saturday night. The two drivers battled until the end, but shared the title and split the $2,200 purse for first place. Adult water aerobic classes are now available at the Ritzville Water Park in two sessions every Monday through Friday. Each session lasts for one hour, with the afternoon session beginning at noon and the evening session starting 5 p.m. in coordination with the adult swim time at the pool. Kayla Gardner, daughter of Gale and Jean Gardner of Lind, has been awarded a Trustees Scholarship for $3,000 for the 2013-14 academic year at Eastern Washington University. Thirty-two cars raced around the Lind Lions Arena Friday night to kick-off the weekend’s entertainment for the 26th annual Lind Combine Demolition Derby. Faye Vinion Hummel Pinson died at the age of 81 on Thursday, June 6, after many years of suffering with severe dementia. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister and loved by her extended family. She was born to F. E. and Florence Parker Vinion on June 12, 1931, in Davenport, Wash.
