The Lind Kiddie Parade on June 9 has decided on the theme of “Storybook Characters Come Alive.” Participants should arrive at 10 a.m. with their entry form. All participants receive an award for participating and should meet east of the Memorial Park. Judging begins promptly at 10:15. The parade begins at 10:45 a.m. just before the Grand Parade. The H.E. Gritman Senior Center is hosting a pancake breakfast on Friday, June 8, from 7:30 a.m. until noon. This is the final breakfast for the spring. The center hosts a pancake breakfast on the second Friday of every month. Along with the standard pancakes with the choice of ham or sausage, the menu is expanded to include biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs and juice. Even before the demolition derby begins on Friday, Lind can expect three very special visitors to be passing through town. Jennifer Bradley, Justin Faulke and Mike Samuelson are participating in the Run Across America on Trails race, which began on May 30 in Westport, Wash. and concludes in Delaware, 3,360 miles later. The Adams County Wheat Growers meeting is being held in association with the Ritzville Varietal Plot Tour on June 7, beginning at 1 p.m. The meeting is taking place at Ron Jirava’s farm. Goodwill Industries is bringing a 26-foot enclosed trailer to receive donations at the Gilson Gymnasium parking lot Wednesday, June 13, through Sunday, June 17. For every pound received, 20 cents is going to be donated to the Lind/Ritzville School District with a minimum donation of $600 given. Joshua Draper, a 30-year-old Ritzville resident was killed in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 31, as the result of a tragic train versus vehicle accident at the Tokio Road Crossing. Adams County Sheriff’s Undersheriff John Hunt said Tuesday, June 5, that the investigation is ongoing. The agency is waiting for the results of a toxicology report, which could take up to four weeks. Nearly 55-years ago, Alma W. Skousen had an experience that remains vivid in his mind to this very day. The Ritzville High School Class of 1967 had terrific attendance for their No. 45 reunion. Thirty-two class members, along with several spouses, attended one or all of the weekend events. On Friday night, some classmates ate dinner together at the Bowling Alley; a large group gathered for the reunion on Saturday afternoon at the home of Dave and Carla Braun and then also attended the Alumni Banquet. David Michaelson, author of the award-winning “The Burntwater Cook’s Kitchen Guide,” recently completed the third book in his science fiction trilogy. The East Adams Rural Hospital is in the process of replacing T-12 light fixtures with T-8 bulbs, which is a mandatory change as well as a major energy saving switch. During the regular meeting of the Lind and Ritzville school board’s on April 23, superintendent Rob Roettger announced that the trophy issue has finally come a close. The FFA trophies that had been disposed of earlier this school year have now been fully replaced and paid for. The biggest news to the school boards were that the school did not have to pay any out of pocket costs for the replacement of the trophies. Tommi Sue Swannack, a seventh grade student at Lamont Middle School, has earned a position on the Washington State National Junior High rodeo team and is traveling with fellow teammates to Gallup, New Mexico at the end of June to compete at the eighth annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo.
