  • The EPA’s Waterway Power Grab

    Updated Jun 4, 2015

If you were asked to describe a “navigable waterway” in the U.S., you would most likely not think of the stream in your backyard or the irrigation ditch in your field. You would probably mention the Columbia and Mississippi rivers or the Great Lakes. These massive bodies of water are navigable because they function as highways for commercial traffic by ship or boat. Under the Obama Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would disagree. These agencies have defined waterways in a w... Full story

  • Reusing Water Can Help Farmers and Fish

    Don C. Brunell, Business Commentator|Updated Jun 4, 2015

Over the last few years, one of the remarkable successes is the record salmon returns to the Columbia River and its tributaries. Conversely, one of the biggest disappointments is low recovery of delta smelt in San Francisco Bay. To protect the smelt, a federal court ordered that water be flushed into the San Francisco Bay – 1.4 trillion gallons since 2008. • Finding a rational energy policy

    Updated Jun 4, 2015

There are undoubtedly people calling for the end of civilization to prevent climate change. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to prevent it. There are many sensible ways to do that. In his May 28 column “Looking at Fossil Fuels Through a Different Lens”, Don Brunell states “many activists simply demand an end to the use of fossil fuels now”, and articulates the many ways we use fossil hydrocarbons (oil, gas, coal) in medicine and other aspects of life. Don doesn’t argue against preventing climate change, but calls for a ...

He was the coach who always would stay late to work on things and had the ability to make the sport fun. Now having helped Randy coach the past 4 years it has been a great education to see how he c... Full story
