Many of us celebrated another successful alumni banquet last Saturday. The alumni committee does a fantastic job, and we RHS and LRHS alums should be grateful for their commitment to this great tradition. If I haven’t said thank you, then here it is, “Thank you!” There were a lot of laughs, memories and great conversations on Saturday. As usual there were a whole lot of conversations that started out, “Do you remember the time…” Another question that was overheard was, “Have...

As we observed Memorial Day this May 30, I hope that we each took a moment to reflect on the high cost paid for the freedoms we enjoy by the men and women in our Armed Forces. Throughout our history, more than one million Americans have given their lives defending our liberty. This Memorial Day was the 148th in our nation’s history, and rather than simply marking the beginning of summer, as Americans we should take the opportunity to honor those who have given their all. For many Americans, the name “Arlington” immed...
Today, more millennials are moving back home even though the economy is improving and wages are inching upward. Recently, Pew Research Center revealed that a third of young adults today are more likely to live with their parents than they were before the Great Recession. Unemployment among young adults has been dropping since 2010, as has the number of millennials living independently. In 2007, prior to the recession, about 42.7 million individuals in that age group lived on their own. In the years in between, the population...
Ernest Hemingway wrote “Courage is grace under pressure.” This Memorial Day and every day, we remember our heroes who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for our freedom and safety. Our community really joins together to honor our heroes. I wanted to thank and acknowledge the VFW, the American Legion and all the volunteers who decorated the cemetery and put on the beautiful service. It was especially wonderful to see our youth helping by putting flags on our veteran’s graves. It was an inspiring sight to see the flags flyin...
In the normal course of social endeavors, governments are formed to serve the welfare of the public, standardize rules, laws and policies for the greater good and keep the peace. Society wants and needs these things so everyone may go their merry way and pursue a quality of life. We all want to have a good job, make a little money, maybe save a little, raise kids and hope our fishing boat makes contact with the water occasionally. The City of Ritzville has a process that requires businesses from out of town to obtain an annua...
