On June 11, a dinner event celebrates the one-year anniversary for the Washtucna Historical Museum and Community Center. A program titled “Bids and Giggles” will honor the first milestone year. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will offer two “free days” in June on Saturday, June 4, in recognition of National Trails Day and Saturday, June 11, for National Get Outdoors Day. Visitors will not need to display a Discover Pass for day-use visits to state parks on these dates. The free days are in keeping with legislation that created the Discover Pass. Open burning within Adams County and the city limits of Ritzville will close at dusk on Sunday, June 5, according to Adams County Fire Protection District No. 1 Chief Scott Kembel and Ritzville Fire Chief Bill Banner. No open fires for the burning of vegetation or other matter are permitted in town or in rural areas. Burning season remains closed until some time in the fall. The Lind Town Council met on May 24 with the discussion focused on the Animal Ordinance for the town and whether it will include chickens. The meeting began with the approval of the claims. With the beginning of warm weather comes the end of school. The Ritzville Public Library has planned a packed summer to provide activities for local children to remain entertained. The free reading program will kick off the summer. This year it is themed “On Your Mark, Get Set… Read!” to tie in with the Summer Olympics. MAIN AVENUE was filled with classic cars on Sunday morning into the afternoon as locals and visitors proudly displayed their favorite vehicles. The Classics on Main is in it’s third year in downtown Ritzville and attracted people from across the region to attend the May 29 event.
