    The annual preview for the float designed by Ritzville Festivals Association is scheduled for, Thursday, May 17, at dusk. The float begins its loop, led by the Lind-Ritzville marching band, down Main Avenue just as the sun goes down.     American Idol Winner Lee Dewyze will be performing at the Ritz Theatre on May 17. Local singers opening the show are Chelsey Heidenreich, Katheran Gingrich and Travis Shaw.     The community of Washtucna is banding together to support Nik Johnston, who suffered a stroke earlier in the year and continues rehabilitation treatments. Johnston served as the Washtucna Fire Chief for many years and has been an active member in the community. On May 19-20, there will be a yard sale at 505 West May Street in Washtucna, with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to Johnston to assist with medical expenses.     In coordination with the Inland Northwest Blood Center (INBC), East Adams Rural Healthcare is hosting a blood drive from 1:45-3:15 p.m. on May 18. Donor registration will be in the hospital lobby. INBC needs an average of 200 blood donors every day to meet the needs of more than 35 hospitals in the Inland Northwest.     The City of Ritzville is seeking volunteers to help with the First Avenue Beautification project on May 19 and 20. Crews will plant the trees, shrubs, grass, perennial flowers on Saturday at 8 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows and meet at the Napa Auto Parts building on First Avenue.     A recent study from the Boyd Company once again ranked Ritzville as one of the top cities in the nation for distribution warehousing. The analysis also ranked Othello as the top city for food processing plants. This is not the first time Ritzville was ranked near the top in a study for distribution warehousing.   • Ritzville City Council approves wayfinding sign proposal

    During the May 1 meeting, the Ritzville City Council unanimously approved a proposal from Arnett Muldrow and Associates to develop a wayfinding master plan for the City. Arnett Muldrow came in as the low bidder for the project at $13,500 with travel expenses, not exceeding $3,800.     The Town of Lind’s Storm Water Project is done for the time being. During the meeting, Stantec Engineer Alan Gay notified the Council the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) would not grant the Town’s request for a deadline extension for the Storm Water project.     The Lind-Ritzville Cooperative School District Board of Directors have officially offered the superintendent position to Don Vanderholm. Vanderholm is currently the principal of Mason High School and a graduate of Washington State University superintendent certification program.     The Northwest Regional College Rodeo Finals were recently held in Hermiston, Oregon. Tommi Sue Swannack, a recent graduate of Sprague High School, won the Regional Goat Tying Championship to claim a saddle.     The Adams County Cemetery District No. 3 in Lind will be moving water lines from the well head at the cemetery, due to the upcoming Adams-Neilson Solar Project. With the new water lines and electrical components being updated, the sprinkler system within the cemetery must be replaced.
