The H.E. Gritman Senior Center has amended the start time for the Chinese Dinner on Friday, May 16. The dinner begins at 5 p.m. to help accommodate a leisurely dinner for anyone wanting an early meal and also for those individuals planning to attend the Garrett Bartley Band concert at The Ritz Theater. The meal consists of chicken chow mein, almond chicken, egg foo young and egg flower soup. The center remains open and serving dinner until 8 p.m. that evening. The Washtucna School District is offering a free screening clinic for children ages 0-5 years old on May 20 from 12:30-2 p.m. at Washtucna School. Developmental areas screened include vision, hearing, motor, cognitive, speech and language skills. Results provide parents with a report of their child’s educational development. Dryland, a documentary filmed in Adams County, is being screened at The Ritz Theater on May 22-24. Work will begin in June on the second phase of the Ritzville Walk and Bike path project. This phase will travel from Division Street, along Baumann to Weber Road down to Jackson Street. Tuesday, May 6, the Ritzville City Council awarded the construction bid to Cameron-Reilly Concrete of Spokane Valley for $170,698.25. The bid came in under the engineer’s estimate of $181,728.80. Kirby-Hunt Construction LTD was awarded a $919,778.37 contract to install the pump and construct the well house for Ritzville’s newest water well, which was drilled last summer near the golf course. The Lind School District has been selected to receive a $500,000 preliminary Energy Efficiency Grant for improvements at the schools. With a slight change in playoffs this year, the LRS tennis team competed in the District Tournament to have multiple athletes move onto regionals. The Seconds Tournament has been eliminated, moving all of the number two and three singles competitions into the district competition as well.
