  • Ralston Grange hosts program on medical mission trip

    On Tuesday, May 16, the men of the Ralston Grange will be fixing and serving dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Following dinner, Nancy Evans Pulham will present a program on her medical mission trip to Kenya last year. Pulham will tell about her experiences while in Kenya working with a Hospice House, utilizing her 18 years of Hospice nursing care.     Karen Potts and Karen Palmer from the Adams County Healthy Department presented to the Ritzville City Council about placing no smoking or vaping signs around the city during the May 2 regular meeting. The Health Department has been taking strides to prevent youth substance abuse by establishing the Youth Prevention Program, said Potts.     At the age of 111, Ritzville is now saying good-bye to the oldest resident following her passing on May 8. Molly Schmidt, originally born in Canada, has served as the community’s oldest resident for countless years. She was born on July 22, 1905. At the time of her death, she was not only the city’s oldest resident, but also the oldest citizen in the state of Washington.     A survey conducted by the University of Michigan in 2015 revealed that, within a month of the survey, 33 percent of responding high school seniors consumed alcohol and 23 percent smoked marijuana. Teenage substance abuse is of concern to institutions across the country, including Lind-Ritzville High School (LRHS).     The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos baseball team ended the regular season with a win against Davenport and a loss to Northwest Christian in the first round of the District Tournament. Robert was the second youngest of six sons born to Guy and Catherine Louise Principato VanVleet. After finishing his education in Ritzville, he joined the Peace Corps in Indiana.
