The H.E. Gritman Senior Center is hosting a pancake breakfast on Friday, April 13, from 7:30 a.m. until noon. The center hosts a pancake breakfast on the second Friday of every month. The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual bean feed to celebrate the end of tax season on Monday, April 16. The event is free for individuals who have paid their taxes. The Adams County Sheriff Posse is sponsoring a Poker Ride fundraiser on Saturday, April 28 at the Bar U Ranch in Washtucna. East Adams Rural Hospital began removing asbestos from the boiler room and crawl space running underneath the hospital on April 2. The asbestos abatement project keeps all of the asbestos in a self-contained area, limiting the potential exposure. The crawl space is having the asbestos removed in order to allow electricians to safely work in the area during a future electrical project. Getting from one side of the tracks to the other in Ritzville will be a bit more challenging for the next week even when there are not any trains. Crews from Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) began work Wednesday on the crossings at Adams and Division Streets. The Adams County Mosquito Control District began checking early spots of standing water for mosquito larva the last week of March. There are several small areas throughout Adams County that have produced mosquito larva in the early spring for years. Products used are: Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, Bacillus sphaericus and Methoprene for larva control and Monomolecular Surface Film and refined petroleum distillates for pupa control. The Ritzville Volunteer Ambulance Association (RVAA) applied for a $1,000 grant from Walmart’s Hunger Outreach Grant Program to assist the Ritzville Food Pantry in December.
