  • Easter egg hunts slated in local communities, begin March 19

    The Easter holiday festivities begin with Easter egg hunts in the Ritzville, Lind, Ralston and Washtucna communities, beginning next week. The annual Ralston Grange Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Ralston Park on Saturday, March 19, at 9 a.m. Kids of all ages, from toddler on up, are welcome to participate.   • Michael, Linda Schrag scholarship awarded to first recipient

    In March 2015 Mike Schrag joined the Washington Wheat Foundation board and created a $1,000 scholarship, the Michael and Linda Schrag Agriculture Education Scholarship endowment. This scholarship is available to junior and seniors at Washington State University (WSU) who hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above and have declared agriculture education as their major.     The Ritzville City Council met on Tuesday, March 1, for their regularly scheduled meeting. The first topic discussed was Resolution 2016-03, a request to name Highway 395 after Thomas Stephen Foley. Foley was a Washington native and served in the United States House of Representatives from 1965 to 1995. He was the first Speaker of the House of Representatives from a state west of the Rocky Mountains. Foley worked to change Highway 395 to a four-lane highway from the Tri-Cities to Ritzville.   • Income survey mailed to Ritzville residents

    The City of Ritzville will be distributing an income survey to the approximate 800 residents within the service area of the City’s utilities. The purpose of the survey is to establish the percentage of low to moderate income levels within the city. These levels are required for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application.     Ritzville Fire Department Chief Bill Banner advises residents smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan. When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast and working smoke alarms can give residents an early warning to exit the home quickly.   • Suspect arrested in I-90 homicide investigation: Gruesome murder leaves 24-year-old woman dead

    Paranoia and anger caused by drug consumption led to the murder of a 24-year-old woman on the side of I-90, about 20 miles west of Ritzville, early on March 1. Adams County Sheriff’s Office investigated the homicide and arrested Manuel Argomaniz-Camargo in connection with the murder. The homicide had initially been reported as a pedestrian versus vehicle collision, according to Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner.     David Earl Wyatt died Feb. 13 at the Yuma Regional Medical Center after a brief illness with his wife Bobbie by his side. David was born in Caroleen, North Carolina, May 8, 1931, to Archie and Lucy Wyatt. He is now survived by one brother Charles Wyatt. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and retired after 26 years in 1970. During this time he met his wife Betty Sulgrove in Spokane and was married for 33 years.
