On Feb. 14, 1914, Charles and Emma Bartell Koehler purchased land from Vera Robin Kane Colwell. The land was located at McElroy Lake three miles east of Paha, a thriving community of 600 people. Prior to arriving in Ritzville they had been farming at Dufur, Ore. Charles began a farming operation with his sons Louis, Carl, Max and Marshall Koehler. The H.E. Gritman Senior Center is hosting the monthly pancake breakfast on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, from 7:30 a.m. until noon. The senior center staff is inviting community members to start the special day with a quality breakfast and community fellowship. Pancakes, a choice of ham or sausage, and juice or coffee, are on the breakfast menu this Friday with a suggested donation of $5 per person. Muriel Grace (Stockwell) Diesel died Jan. 27 in Richland at the age of 90. She was born in San Pedro Calif. Muriel attended University of California at Santa Barbara. In 1943, she married Halbert Diesel and spent the next 20 years as a happy military wife traveling the United States. In 1999 she moved to Ritzville after retiring from the Job Corps at the age of 75. She was a 62-year member of P.E.O. and a 30-year member of Sweet Adeline’s. She is survived by her five c...
