    Residents of the Ninth Legislative District do not travel to meet with Senator Mark Schoesler on Tuesday, Feb. 18, but can pick up a telephone instead.   • LR FFA chapter collecting donations

    The Lind-Ritzville FFA chapter is collecting donations to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Spokane. The chapter’s officers and advisors are traveling to volunteer their time serving breakfast and to donate items to the organization on Feb. 21 as part of National FFA Week.   • Music programs hosting Box Top Drive

    The music departments at Lind and Ritzville Schools are again collecting Box Tops from now until Feb. 21. Box Tops are on a variety of products, and each Box Top collected is worth 10 cents for the music program. All of the Box Tops can be delivered to music teachers Heidi Nygren, Susan Schafer and Jennifer York at the local schools, and each class has a bin to record who collects the most coupons.     The Ritzville Public Library has a variety of events slated for the month of February. All of the events and activities are free and open to the public. The events kick off with Crafternoon on Feb. 14 when individuals can stop by to make Valentine’s Day cards for friends and family.   • City, school district trade property

    The Ritzville School District and the City of Ritzville entered into an agreement to trade property surrounding the ag shop in Ritzville on Tuesday morning. City representatives approached the school district about trading property in the park for the trade of an easement and installation of a sewer line to the ag shop.   • Courthouse receives preservation grant

    Adams County has received a grant in the amount of $219,230 from the Steering Committee of the Historic County Courthouse Grant Rehabilitation Program for assisting with ADA upgrades and improvements on the elevator. The grant is available through the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP).   • Hospital district hires physician

    A veteran physician is set to join the staff of Adams County Public Hospital District No. 2 on May 5. Doctor Timothy C. Bryant will commence a full time schedule in the Ritzville Medical Clinic and East Adams Rural Hospital in May. Hospital commissioners voted unanimously on Jan. 23 to offer Bryant a contract contingent upon the completion of reference checks.     The Adams County Feb. 11 Special Election ballots have been tallied for citizens’ votes on Maintenance and Operation (M&O) levies and bonds for local school districts. With 2,039 ballots tallied, there are an estimated 275 ballots still left to be counted. The Lind School District placed an improvement bond on the ballot with bonds for safety, energy efficiency and instructional technology improvements.   • Saturday blaze destroys shed

    Ritzville Fire Department tackled a structure fire late Saturday night. Crews responded to the 200 block of Alder where they found a shed fully engulfed in flames at 11:25 p.m. Fire Chief Jim Bostic said a total of 15 firefighters with four trucks battled the blaze. The fire did not spread to the occupied residence. The initial cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.
