The Washington Flying Farmers and Big Bend Community College is sponsoring a Pilot’s Safety Seminar on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Moses Lake. The seminar is free and will be held at BBCC Flight Training Center Building 3000 at Grant County International Airport. The seminar is open to all pilots or anyone interested in flying. Ray Bernard, 1969 graduate of Ritzville High School, will once again be involved with March Madness, as Washington State University is hosting the men’s second and third round games at the Spokane Arena on March 20 and March 22. This will be Bernard’s eighth NCAA Tournament as the Public Address (PA) announcer. He previously had worked for WSU at men’s NCAA tournaments at the Spokane Arena in 2007 and 2010, and women’s regionals in 2008, 2011 and 2013. The Lind and Ritzville School Districts have received a $30,000 grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to purchase and install flashing beacon lights in the school zones. The signs have been purchased and eight lights have been installed in both communities. With the work completed, the school district can now be reimbursed by WTSC. Area residents are welcome to use the new all-weater track at the Jimmie Snider Field sports complex at Lind-Ritzville High School. Athletic Director Greg Whitmore said community members can use it at any time for walking, jogging, running and various exercise routines. Those using the track can gain entrance to the facility alongside the grandstands where the ticket booth is located. Whitmore asks that people use the outside lanes of the track. The boys’ basketball teams have each completed two games so far this season, with one win against Wilber-Creston and one loss against Davenport. The scores for the game against Davenport were: 22-34 for the A-team and 28-11 for the B-team. The coaches this year are Nicholas Weishaar and Steve Nygren. The Lady Tigercats battled to earn their first league win over the weekend and fell just short in games against Rosalia and Garfield-Palouse. The Lady Tigercats faced Touchet on Tuesday night, and again came up short from ending the win. On Friday night the Lady Tigercats went on the road to face Rosalia and returned home with a 45-22 loss to the Lady Spartans.
