Sunday was a sad day for the 12’s. We really had our hopes set on a big victory over the Carolina Panthers. We were in such better physical shape than the first time we played those guys a few months ago in Seattle that most everyone was confident. The game turned quickly and the Hawks were down early 14-0. In order for a victory to happen the Hawks needed to score early. That wasn’t to be. But we Seahawks fans still need to be proud of the way these heroes fought back in the...

The Lady Tigercats faced College Place on Jan. 12, before matching up against Garfield-Palouse and Colton over the weekend. The Lady Tigercats earned the win, defeating College Place 39-29. The low scoring game proved to be a good match up for the two teams. Last week, Americans were subjected to a stunning sight: Iran’s official state television released staged photos of detained U.S. service members on their knees with their hands on their heads. One U.S. sailor, appearing to be coached by Iranians, even apologized on camera for the Americans’ supposed incursion into Iranian waters in the Persian Gulf. The detainment of U.S. sailors had taken place just hours before President Obama’s final State of the Union address. In his speech, the President touted the success of his admin...

I read a letter last week from a Ritzville family intending to vote for the school district bonds for the kids. The family will dig deep for the kids. I am with that family. A question, however, has to be asked whether the children of Ritzville will be better served by the additional burden of millions of dollars of debt. Will the bond actually improve the lives of Ritzville children? Or is it possible the financial burden upon Ritzville families will make the lives of our children more difficult? Ritzville parents and other...
After listening to several different conversations about the proposed Ritzville School Bond, I thought it could be helpful to simply list the reasons I came up with in casting my vote specifically as it relates to the additional gym. Extracurricular activities have proven benefits. Extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered part of a well-rounded education....

Seattle lost an icon earlier this month when Dick Spady, the 92-year old founder of Dick’s Drive-In restaurants, died. He was an entrepreneur who took a risk, worked hard, treated his workers and customers well, sold an excellent product at an affordable price, and did his part to make his community and country a better place to live and raise a family. Dick Spady was a pacesetter in the fast food industry, which developed a full head of steam in the 1950s. He was quick to recognize a business opportunity and believed that pe...

The new legislation is a bipartisan measure designed to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, a civil rights act signed into law 50 years ago by Lyndon B. Johnson. The act is described by the U.S. D...
