  • Deadline to buy yearbook nears

  • Manager’s contract for golf course renewed

    Dan Duff’s contract to serve as the manager of Ritzville Municipal Golf Course was unanimously approved Tuesday by the city council. With only minor changes in the contract language, the agreement clears the way for Duff’s second year as the manager of the course he golfed on while growing up in Ritzville. The city’s contract sets forth a number of expectations for the course manager. In return, the council agrees to compensate Duff with $3,714 per month of $45,568 annually.   • Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign results announced

    The results are in from the recent Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI enforcement campaign conducted from Nov. 27 through Jan. 1. In Grant, Adams and Lincoln Counties, 76 motorists were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI), and statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 2,723 drivers for DUI. 
Last year in Grant, Adams and Lincoln Counties, during the same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols arrested 84 people for DUI.

    The Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce’s panel of judges selected the 2013 Christmas Lighting contest winners for the Best Decorated Home and Best Decorated Business for the best display of lights in the community. The 2013 winner for Best Decorated Home was Lucky and Bev Robertson at 307 East Seventh Avenue.   • Soft opening, benefit set for March 21

    Members of the Ritzville Downtown Development Association (RDDA) and countless volunteers have been hard at work over the past months working on restoring and upgrading the historic Ritz Theatre. The progress is outstanding, but the group is still working towards completion of the project and accepting donations to make the final purchases in order to reopen the doors to visitors this spring.     The Ronald Dean Estes Scholarship has now become available for Lind-Ritzville High School students. The scholarship is awarded annually through the Community Foundation of North Central Washington, and will be given to three seniors in the amount of $1,000. The deadline for applications is Feb. 15.     Steve Dixon was sworn in on Friday, Jan. 3, as the new Adams County Superior Court Judge. He was sworn in by Court Commissioner Richard Miller, who retired as superior court judge in 2012. Dixon had recently served as the Kitsap County Superior Court Judge prior to his appointment.     A huge win over the second place Colfax Lady Bulldogs was one of three victories since last Friday for the LRS Lady Broncos. The team started the weekend with a Friday night victory over Springdale, 66-43. They picked up another home court win Saturday in a nail biter as they edged Colfax, 44-43.
