The Columbia Basin Development League, which was created in 1964 to support the federal Bureau of Reclamation’s Columbia Basin Project, recently announced the newly elected board and officers for 2013. The H.E. Gritman Senior Center will host the monthly pancake breakfast on Friday, Jan. 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pancakes, a choice of ham or sausage, and coffee or juice, are on the menu with a suggested donation of $5 per person. The breakfast serves as a fundraiser for the senior center and is held the second Friday of every month, except during the summer. The H.E. The Ritzville Girl Scouts are hosting a Safe Sitters class on Monday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., at the Ritzville Grade School. The day is an observed holiday for the school and regular classes will not be in session at the time of the class. Last Friday, a rather unique changing of the guard occurred in Adams County Superior Court. Judge Richard “Dick” Miller marked the end of his tenure during a swearing-in ceremony, where he passed the gavel to his brother, Brian Miller. Kathy McKenzie Bartley died at the age of 55, on Saturday, Dec. 22, in Vancouver, Wash., with her husband Bryon at her side. She was born on July 14, 1957, to Paul and Ginger McKenzie of Ritzville, the second eldest of seven children. She grew up in Washtucna and moved to Ridgefield, Wash., over 25 years ago. She provided care to the Ritzville and Spokane area for over 50 years as a Registered Nurse.
