After being selected out of nearly 180 different nonprofit organizations earlier this year, construction began on Adams County Pet Rescue’s new facility in conjunction with the filming of Animal House’s pilot episode on Sunday, Oct. 19. With two acres of land under his care Jud Prescott was able to deliver over 24,000 pounds of squash to Second Harvest as well as three containers estimated at 800 pounds each to the Ritzville Food Pantry with this years harvest. The ground, located between Dogwood and Elm, yielded more than just squash. On Friday night there were three teams in the Broncos’ league with undefeated seasons including LRS, the Reardan Indians and the Colfax Bulldogs. On Saturday morning, there would only be one team who could claim that title. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos secured their position at the top of the league by defeating Reardan 7-6 in a tough game on the Indians home turf. The Broncos remain undefeated after a tough victory against the Liberty Lancers. During their homecoming game on Friday the Broncos had a difficult time moving the ball on defense but were able to secure a win against the Lancers because of their defense. The Bronco offense had a hard time moving the ball down the field, completing only eight out of 19 passes and averaging 2.9-yards per play they struggled to put points on the board. After a tough homecoming match the Lady Broncos took on the Saint George’s Dragons in an away game. The Broncos were able to take the match in three despite being down a middle hitter. Madison Harder injured her ankle during the Wilbur-Creston match and therefore was unable to play during the away game. They also had two players who, due to sickness, had no voice. At the regular meeting of the Adams County Commissioners Public Works Director Todd O’Brien submitted a request fro the board to approve the final capital purchase of the 2014 fiscal year. The truck needed to be upgraded, explained O’Brien, so all of the spray trucks in the county were standardized to help minimize costs of maintenance. Currently two of the tree trucks use a North Star sprayer. Thirty thousand dollars had been budgeted for the updating of the truck, however, the price quoted to O’Brien was $37,418. He asked... On Thursday, Oct. 2, Lind fire crews responded to a report of a fire near the Interstate 90 at milepost 203. When crews arrived they found the CRP field adjacent to the interstate had been set ablaze, starting at the edge of the eastbound lanes and moving northeast towards Schrag Road and Highway 21. On Saturday Oct. 4 the Lady Broncos trekked to Springdale to face the Mary-Walker Chargers. The Broncos swept victory in three sets; 25-13, 25-15 and 25-13. Coach Cari Galbreath was happy to leave Springdale with such a decisive win saying it would have been easy for the girls to drop their level of play after the bus ride there. The LRS Broncos continue their winning streak on the gridiron after a decisive victory of the Northwest Christian Crusaders. On Oct. 4 the Broncos traveled to face the Crusaders in Riverside. The Broncos had to play without starting quarterback Jacob Saetre who sat out the game because of a potential knee injury; Saetre was cleared to play in the homecoming game this week. The Lind Town Council made its decision for security at the Waste Water Treatment Plant at their regular meeting on Sept. 23. The council voted unanimously to use Moon Security for the installation of eight cameras for surveillance and an alarm system in the building of the WWTP. The council decided this after reviewing proposed security options from both Moon Security and ADT. The total cost for the security at the WWTP will be $7,748.89, which will be funded by the remaining grant money from the WWTP project. The system... Full story
Members of the Town of Lind gathered at the Lind Senior Center to hear presentations about the planning of the Lind Stormwater Project and offer their opinions and insight regarding problems the town faces. Monday saw the delivery of the Ritzville Fire Department’s latest step to improve its current fire service rating by the Washington State Survey and Rating Bureau. It is a used fire engine and ladder to bring the responding pump trucks up to the required number of three. It will also give the fire department the ability to reach fires in elevated structures. The LRS Broncos remain undefeated after their fourth league game of the season last Friday, showing marked improvement in several areas of play. For three months Nicole Shaefer has been offering haircuts on Main Avenue, renting her space from Kim Yaeger, as a part of a long family tradition of hair styling. After graduating from Ritzville High School in 2008, Nicole began her schooling at Glen Dow Academy of Hair Design in Spokane. For six months she learned the practices of a hair stylist. On Friday Sept. 19 the LRS Bronco football team traveled to face Tekoa-Rosalia in the Broncos’ third game in their season. The Broncos took the game with ease, defeating the Timberwolves 63-0. The team scored 28 points in the first quarter. Alan Field would score first for the Broncos after pulling in a five-yard pass from Jacob Saetre. At the Aug. 20 meeting of the Ritzville City Council the city was updated on the status of the Division Street Overlay Project.
