Benzel donates movie house to downtown group Some would say classic movie houses should be national treasurers. Generations have passed through their doors to snack on popcorn and candy while enjoying a good movie. From the silent films that started it all, to memorable musicals and spaghetti westerns, to today’s modern, multi-million dollar productions, these vintage show houses have provided thousands of hours of entertainment. At the very least, those theaters that are s...

  • Take time to listen as the hospital district considers facility issues

    Stephen McFadden|Updated Feb 28, 2013

The future of healthcare in the area deserves a solid, collaborative discussion. For the better part of 10 years, Adams County Public Hospital District No. 2 has struggled with the aging condition of a 60-year-old hospital facility. Countless studies have been done at great expense to the district and the taxpayers supporting it. For the most part the studies come to the same conclusion: The existing facility can be brought up to code or it can be renovated to stretch its life just a little bit longer. Both options however,...

This week, your community newspaper is following suit. As a result, we have used the opportunity to freshen up some of the paper’s design elements while making adjustments to the new dimensions. We were arriving at The Journal at the same time, so we walked in together, took care of what he came to do and then talked about the incredible generosity of people when there’s a crisis, in this case Bob’s crisis. More or less, Bob and I know each other because he has worked for the City of Ritzville and I report on the city’s activities. He’s ha...
