The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Bronco wrestling squad competed in two matches in the last week with one being their final League Match of the season. Aging & Adult Care of Central Washington (AACCW) has started a support group for grandparents and relatives raising children living in Adams, Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Lincoln and Okanogan counties. Residents are encouraged to join with others in seeking to provide a stable, nurturing environment for those raising children, who have come into their family due to a loss or absence of the parents. In the recent meeting of the Ritzville City Council Milton Rowland of Foster Pepper, PLLC, presented in regards to the status of the Well No. 9 Pump Station. The Well No. 9 Pump Station project contract began on April 24, 2014, between the City of Ritzville and the contractor, Kirby-Hunt Construction. The two parties agreed upon a contract amount of $935,280.06 and for the project to be completed in September 2014. The Ritzville City Council meeting on Jan. 19 provided various committee reports and allowed the council members to discuss current issues within the city. Public Works Director Larry Swift requested the council to approve the purchase of a trailer since the price dropped by $1,200. The trailer will help when hauling grass clippings and other debris collected at the cemetery and park. Two bids were made, the first from a company in Idaho whose price is $7,799. The Broncos wrestlers had a week off from tournaments to prepare for the tail end of their season, which includes their last league match. On Saturday, Jan. 23, the Broncos traveled to Kittitas for the Coyote Classic Wrestling Tournament. The Lady Broncos have begun the last few league games of their season and are finishing set to finish with a good record heading into the playoffs. Their week held two nonleague wins and a tough league loss to the St. George’s Lady Dragons. Last Tuesday on Jan. 19, the team took to the court to face the Connell Lady Eagles. The Lind Town Council convened for their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Jan. 12, where the new councilmember was sworn in. Paula Bell was recently re-elected and was sworn in at the end of December. Craig Cooper additionally took his seat on the council at this first meeting of the year. At the request of former Adams County Sheriff John Hunt, the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) conducted a Local Jail and Justice System Assessment (LJJSA) of the Adams County Jail located in Ritzville and recently published a report of their findings. An LJJSA involves the inspection of facilities and processes, and considers all justice system components. The 2016 city council meetings began on Jan. 5 with all new council members and the new mayor taking their elected positions. The meeting began with the unanimous approval of ordinance 2092 which amends the 2015 budget to include the appropriation of funds for unanticipated revenues and allocations in the current expense, city streets and city beautification funds. The Fairway Café has been in operation at the Ritzville Golf Course Clubhouse for numerous years, and during that time, the restaurant has been operated by various individuals. Since the middle of October, Chris Peterson has been operating the Café. It happened to be the first time she had been in the restaurant since she moved to the area two years prior. At the Lind meeting of the Town Council on Dec. 22, several pieces of year-end business were discussed and completed. The meeting began with discussion in regards to the Stormwater Project. The Adams County commissioners made the decision to donate a piece of property to the Town of Lind as per a request made by the mayor. On Monday, Dec. 21, the Board of Adams County Commissioners approved the Adams County budget for the 2016 fiscal year. County Commissioner John Marshall stated, “The biggest change dollar-wise was not in the amount we have to operate on but in the amount requested.” Within the Current Expense budget there is a total appropriation of $7,847,919 for Adams County in 2016. Callie Moore has served the community at the Adams County Health Department for 26 years and will retire from her position as Nursing Director at the end of the year. Susan Hoff, the nursing director at the time, asked Moore to assist on certain days where the office needed additional nursing staff during clinic hours. It began with weight certifications on Thursday where each wrestler received their weight class for the tournament the following Saturday.
