Last week, Ritzville Grade School was filled with legendary individuals ranging from Tutankhamen to Elizabeth Taylor. A total of 74 students participated in the Living Wax Museum event that took place in the Grade School small gym and a few classrooms. Lind High School agriculture program received a plaque for being the Region One Outstanding Middle/Secondary School Agricultural Educational Program for 2010-2011 on Monday, Nov. 28, at the high school. Andy Williams, the agriculture teacher, received the award in St. Louis, Mo., at a National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) conference on Nov. 16. Sterling Savings Bank presented the local schools with their collection of donated coats on Friday, Nov. 18. Sterling Savings Bank is a partner in the KXLY Coats 4 Kids drive that raised a total of 18,474 coats this year. Chad Hoeft, Sterling Savings Bank branch manager presented the local school district representatives with the coats. The branch had a total of 120 donated coats this year. The Project 56 committee held a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 17, to discuss the current progress and plans for the ongoing project. The group unanimously decided to refocus and continue the plans for expansion of the track, and only the track. The refocused project goal is to produce an eight lane all-weather track with two straight of ways, one down either side of the track. Jen Kronvall from the American Cancer Society spoke at the Chamber of Commerce General Membership meeting on Thursday, Nov. 17, to discuss the upcoming 2012 Relay For Life of Ritzville event. The Relay For Life of Ritzville event will continue to be hosted at the high school track as it has for the last five years and with the money raised going to the American Cancer Society. The FBLA and FFA chapters at Ritzville High School are hosting a rivalry food drive in association with the Apple Cup game. Community members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food to the high school lobby during regular school hours. There are two boxes set up under the window; one is red in support of the Cougars and one is purple in support of the Huskies. Former Bronco Ray Bernard has become a part of the Gonzaga Bulldog family. Last August, Bernard received a job offer from Gonzaga to become the public address voice of the women’s basketball team. For the last 10 years, Bernard could be heard as the voice of WSU basketball. He spent seven years as the full-time voice of the women’s basketball team and three years as a substitute announcer for both of the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
