With more donations and contributions still being tallied, the 37th annual Mennonite Country Auction and Relief Sale has already raised over $100,000 during the event on Saturday, Oct. 4. An estimated 40 Ritzville residents gathered at the American Legion Hall on Sept. 18 to listen to the informational presentation given by East Adams Rural Hospital CEO Gary Bostrom. The hospital district has scheduled public meetings in every town to discuss the upcoming bond on the general election ballot for the remodel of the existing hospital. After suffering a league loss to Colton last week, the Lady Tigercats earned the first league win of the season against Touchet on Tuesday, Sept. 23, in Washtucna. Para educator Mary Anna Replogle joined the staff at Lind-Ritzville Middle School to begin working with students in the special education class. As a para educator, Replogle works one-on-one with a specific child throughout the entire school year. At eight years old, Jericho and his family shared a wish: the wish for the young boy to be able to walk. With help from the Wishing Star Foundation, two local volunteers granted the wish last month. Jericho was born with a rare brain disorder called lissencephaly, otherwise known as “smooth brain.” The disorder causes seizures and for the young boy to be unable to speak or walk unassisted. Tournament play helped the Lady Tigercats jump start the season last week as the team went on the road to participate in the Odessa Jamboree and Freeman Tournament. The annual Wheat Land Communities’ Fair livestock auction drew a large crowd to support the efforts of livestock exhibitors and simultaneously raise money to support the fair facilities. Livestock Committee Treasurer Lori Williams reported the total sale raised $112,465. The total amount falls short of last year’s record breaking $116,300, and Williams attributes some of the reduction to the decrease in market value as compared to last year. After recently completing the third book in the Crab Creek Chronicles trilogy, Miles Athey is having a book-signing event at Uniquely Washington on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 10 a.m. until noon. A special meeting of the Adams County Public Hospital No. 2 Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Aug. 14, resulted in the decision to acquire the current Life Care Center of Ritzville facility. Carlson transferred to the Ritzville office two months ago as a lateral transfer from Texas. Groups from across the state of Washington banded together in an effort to find new homes for nearly 50 cats from Ritzville. The 10 organizations and the Ritzville Police Department worked together to remove 48 cats and kittens on Thursday, Aug. 14, from a home on Cherry Avenue in Ritzville. A massive dust storm rolled aggressively through the area around 5 p.m. on Aug. 12 and left chaos in its wake. The rolling dust cloud left Adams County in complete darkness as it blanketed the area, and brought with it a severe thunderstorm.
